It starts with human-created stories.
ATHENA builds a structured understanding of their worlds, characters, relationships, events, timelines and rules — helping preserve their coherence as they grow across stories and media.
ATHENA DOESN'T INVENT THE UNIVERSE.
It understands the universe — and helps its creator take it further.
ADAPTIVE
ATHENA evolves with the universe as new elements, stories and information emerge.
When the creator changes or adds something, ATHENA updates its understanding of the existing universe and identifies the elements that may be affected.
EXAMPLE
A character's past is changed in a new story. ATHENA can identify earlier relationships, events, locations or timelines that may now need to be reconsidered.
TRANSMEDIA
ATHENA connects narrative elements across different media and forms of storytelling.
It keeps track of what belongs to the shared universe while distinguishing the specific contribution, perspective or interpretation of each medium.
EXAMPLE
The same character appears in a novel, a film and a game. ATHENA connects those appearances, follows the character's development and checks how the different versions relate to the established universe.
HOLISTIC ENGINE
ATHENA considers the narrative universe as a whole, using the relationships between its elements to understand how they influence one another.
Characters, places, events, objects, organizations, rules and stories are not treated as isolated pieces. ATHENA examines the connections between them and the consequences of change across the larger system.
EXAMPLE
If two characters are revealed to be siblings, that single fact can affect their biographies, relationships, past events and future storylines. ATHENA helps identify those wider consequences.
NARRATIVE ARCHITECTURE
ATHENA provides a structured understanding of the characters, worlds, timelines, rules and relationships that form an evolving universe.
The aim is not simply to store information, but to represent how the pieces of a narrative world fit together — so that the creator can see structure, dependencies and continuity across the whole universe.
EXAMPLE
From several stories, ATHENA can establish who was where, when an event occurred, who was involved, what caused it and which later events depend on it.
ATHENA can be used as far as the creator needs it.
The process can stop after CHECK, once an existing universe has been understood and validated.
EVOLVE and EXTEND are optional paths.
INGEST
ATHENA takes human-created stories as its starting point, extracting and structuring the information that defines their universe.
It can begin with a novel, screenplay, script, notes, concept art, images, video, audio, research or even a simple idea.
EXAMPLE
A creator provides a screenplay and supporting notes. ATHENA identifies the narrative material contained in them and begins building a structured representation of the world.
UNDERSTAND
ATHENA builds a connected model of characters, worlds, events, timelines, rules and relationships.
It goes beyond extracting names and facts: it seeks to understand context, motivations, relationships, themes, tone and the role each element plays in the universe.
EXAMPLE
ATHENA can distinguish a character from a place with the same name, connect that character to other people and events, and place those relationships within the relevant timeline.
CHECK
ATHENA examines the universe for contradictions, continuity issues, missing information and relationships that may otherwise remain unnoticed.
It compares new information with what has already been established and helps the creator see where the narrative logic is strong, uncertain or potentially inconsistent.
EXAMPLE
A character is described as being in two different places at the same time. ATHENA can flag the conflict and show which existing information is involved.
EVOLVE OPTIONAL
As new stories and ideas are introduced, ATHENA evaluates how they fit into the existing universe and what they may affect.
It can help explore possible developments while keeping them grounded in the established world and making their consequences visible.
EXAMPLE
A creator wants to introduce a new character. ATHENA can map where that character could connect to existing people, events, organizations and storylines.
EXTEND OPTIONAL
When requested, ATHENA can help develop new characters, events, storylines or other narrative elements while remaining grounded in the established world.
The creative impulse still comes from the creator. ATHENA uses its understanding of the universe to help develop possibilities that belong to it rather than inventing an unrelated world.
EXAMPLE
The creator asks how an established conflict could lead to a new storyline. ATHENA can explore possible directions while taking the existing characters, rules, history and relationships into account.
